I am totally blown away by mvelopes.

When I first visited the site, I thought it sounded a little hypey--lots of testimonials that sounded too good to be true. I mean, I've tried all kinds of budgeting methods over the years, but none of them worked. For my whole life, I've been in and out of debt. Mostly in.

I decided to sign up for the free trial, figuring I had nothing to lose. That was on August 17th, 2004. I remember the date because I bounced a check that day. It turned out to be the LAST time I ever bounced a check!

Today, December 4th, 2004, I have $2,096.42 in my checking account and $400 in my savings account. I'm sure that doesn't sound impressive to a lot of people, but for me it's a total victory. I have never had this much cash in my life! I am on cloud nine.

I would have more in my savings account, but this week my brakes started grinding really bad, so I took my car into the shop and had them repaired. Normally, this sort of situation would have caused me to panic--where am I gonna get the money for this??-- but this time it didn't bother me because I knew I had money put away for this sort of thing. I can't tell you how I felt writing the check to the mechanic and knowing it was good and that I wouldn't have to eat mac and cheese for two weeks because of it.

Mvelopes has truly changed my life. I have so much confidence now in my ability to manage my money. I used to spend every penny I put in each envelope. Old habits, I guess. Some kind of fear that I'd better spend it while I had it. But now, I love seeing the amounts accumulate in the envelopes. I've become pretty stingy, actually! Laughing I find I don't spend nearly as much as I used to, but I don't feel deprived. I sound like a dieting ad. Laughing

Anyway, if you're thinking about trying mvelopes, I highly recommend it. I know I will never use any other budgeting method again. Mvelopes just works perfectly for me.

Lolly,

I am so happy for you. I know how it feels to have just that small about saved up when you didn't have any. That is just wonderful.

Since I've been using mvelopes personal ( which is over a year now), I have made great stides in saving. I create a envelope for everything now. I can't believe how I am paying cash for everything. It is just a great feeling knowing I not going to go into debt with emergency.

Great job Lolly.

The price is a bit high for newcomers... makes me think they ought to offer a discount for the first 3 or 6 months.

But it has been an outstanding tool to manage money between my wife and I and has improved our relationship as well.

The recent upgrade has been welcome and they still have some improvements to make to put this software "over the top" in terms
of ease of use...

But I heartily recommend it.

I agree it is definitely worth it! The only problem I had was when traveling and forced to use dial up it took too long to load the site. So I dropped Mvelopes for a couple months but now though I am still traveling I am able to use wireless internet and so I joined again and have found the program better than ever!!

I only have dial-up. I find it takes 12-15 minutes to load after I enter my login information.

I realize the following suggestion may not work when traveling, but what I usually do is enter my login info and then go have a cup of coffee, put a load of laundry in the washer, etc. When I come back to the computer a few minutes later, Mvelopes is loaded and ready to go!
