Excel has been one of my greatest tools for planning my payments.

I only use 3 columns.

First column lists my payments to be paid.

Second Column lists how much to pay.

Third column shows how much is left.

I use a simple formula to show how much of my money is remaining after each payment. For those not familiar with excel, here's an example of how I would format a cell: I would type: =C1-B2. It will show the number in C1 minus the number in B2. Then I would copy that formula to each cell that needs to show a remaining amount after each bill.

This has helped me keep a perfect payment record with all my creditors.

Doesn't all that manual entry get tiring? I know when I have tried systems like quicken or even using an excell spreadsheet I always had a hard time keeping up to date, especially when it came to smaller cash transactions.
Any recommendations for getting around those challenges?

I've only been using it to help me manage which BILLS to pay WHEN. I have not used excel for smaller transactions. I track those online with my bank's online banking services. Other than that, I really don't use a "budget" to discipline how MUCH money is going to certain areas of my spending life.
